Tackling One Bra-blem at a Time

9:30 AM

Alright, ladies. We're about to talk about something that is the bane of all of our existences... bras.

I don't know about you, but the very first thing I want to do when I get home after a long day is rip off my bra. (I lied, I totally know that's how you feel, too.) Even after years of wearing one, I have to admit that I'm probably not wearing the right size. It makes such a huge difference, which is why picking the right bra and knowing how to do so is so important.

With the help of ThirdLove, I've learned how to fix each bra-blem, one at a time.

For starters, when you have the right fit, you'll have a tight band. Make sure to start on the loosest hook. With more wear, you can adjust to the next hooks to keep the band feeling like it did on your first wear. Along with making sure your band stays tight, you need to adjust your straps at least every other month to keep them just as supportive! Lastly, make sure the cups fit perfectly by pulling back the wire and adjusting yourself or the bra as needed.

Now that you know how to wear a bra, what about those bra-blems we all deal with?

For me, I'm always adjusting and fiddling with the straps on one bra and then pulling down the band on another. The first problem is easy to tackle. If you're struggling with slipping straps too, just remember to adjust the straps. It sounds simple, but we so often ignore it and simply deal with the nuisance because apparently fixing the problem is too painstaking. If the problem persists, it's time to try a different style to find the right one for you.

On the other hand, if your band is riding up, try purchasing a smaller band size next time you go shopping. Don't forget, a smaller band size means a bigger cup size! A good trick is to slip two fingers under the back of the band. If they fit, you've got the right size.

If your straps are digging in rather than slipping off, it's still time for a change. Especially if it's an old bra, you should invest in a new bra, this time maybe with a smaller band size. Once your straps start to dig in, it means your bra has stretched out.

As for a problem I'll never have? If it looks like your bra isn't doing its job and it's hugging you too tightly, you need to go up a cup size and get some more room. Another problem with the same solution is if you're showing some serious side boob. This means your cups are too small and you need to size up as well.

On the flip side, if you've noticed something that ThirdLove calls cup gaping, you may have the opposite problem. Before you go and drop your hard-earned cash on a new bra, try tightening the straps. That may fix your problem altogether. If the gaping persists, you need to be wearing a cup size smaller.

I hope this helps with any bra-blems you may be dealing with! If we have to wear it on a daily basis, we may as well be wearing it comfortably.

  17. Finding the right size and constantly getting re-measured every 6-12 months is essential. And you've made a great point about adjusting the bra straps - I was about to throw a couple away last month before realising I just needed to adjust the straps. It's surprisingly easy to forget?! haha. Have a lovely week :)

  21. Girl, I feel you! I just find bras to be so annoying to be quite honest, even if I'm wearing the right size, haha. Speaking of, you've shared some great tips on finding the perfect fit, most of us have been/are guilty of wearing the incorrect size, so this post is extremely helpful! Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you're having the best day so far!
